As you may know, the Butler 53 Board of Education has worked hard for more than a year to settle a new 3 year contract with the teachers union.

§  Over the last 6 years Butler teacher compensation has significantly increased, to a point where our average salaries are now $87,412 a year ($102,536 with benefits).

§  Currently, 33% of the teachers earn an average of $112,149 ($127,273 with benefits). Remember, this is for a 35 week work year.

§  Salaries increased 4.3% last year and 6.9% for each of the last 5 years.

§  Our current average salaries are now in the top 1/10 of 1% of all 3,200 Illinois elementary/middle schools.

Our community does value our teachers and the impact they have on our children. However, we as a community also need to be financially responsible.  If you support fiscal responsibility and sustainability of the District, please add your voice to this petition.

Here is a summary of the BOE's final offer to the OBEA.

BOE proposes increases of 2.3%, yr. 1, 2.8%, year 2 and 3.3% yr.3.  For the most highly compensated people this offer is $500 cash, yr.1, $500 cash and +0.5% yr.2, and $1000 cash and 1.0% yr.3.

Updates

February 10, 2012

I have been hearing from so many of you who are just as worried as I am about the stability of our classrooms. My focus remains on getting this contract settled so our teachers and students can finally have the certainty they deserve.

February 10, 2012

Seeing this level of engagement proves that our neighbors recognize the urgent need for fiscal balance in our district. This momentum shows that we are collectively committed to protecting the long term sustainability of our schools for every child.

The teachers already make plenty it is time they accept the offer and get back to the kids instead of playing games.

Ridiculous this has dragged on for a year. The offer is more than fair for the district.
