On behalf of the members of the National Women's Political Caucus of Washington, we thank you for voting for marriage equality.
Whether marriage equality is an issue you've championed throughout your political career, or one that has made you reconcile your personal beliefs with those of your constituents, we are proud that you took a stand to for the families of Washington.
As Senator Ed Murray said, "Despite campaigns, despite difficult issues, we work for this state."
As women, issues of equity and the freedom to choose who we love and how we love is of utmost importance. In a time of economic hardship for many, the ability to form a legal union with the ones we love offers the security to provide for our families.
"This is about family. About kids. It's about love and commitment," Representative Laurie Jinkins.
We are sincerely grateful to the men and women, from both sides of the aisle, who came together to support an historic piece of legislation that will protect Washington families and allow so many more people celebrate love.
Like many others, we are especially moved by the eloquent remarks of Representative Maureen Walsh who summed up the need for marriage equality by saying,
"How could I deny anyone the right to have that incredible bond with another individual in life?"
