We wish to object to the proposed Woolworths development in Newport NSW: This site should be used for a village style development with a mixture of cafes,open spaces, residential, commercial and retail. With an existing Coles supermarket, Newport does not need a second major supermarket. The proposed scheme is too big, too noisy, too polluting and completely out of character with the local beachside nature of the area. Woolworths have a track record of proposing ugly, unsympathetic supermarket developments all over Australia. It's happened in Maleny, Mittagong, Mullumbimby and many others. Woolworths have been a very efficient and successful company but they have shown themselves to be very poor corporate citizens. They must not be allowed to ruin Newport.
