Dear Simon - Kamishibai is a format that Japanese practitioners are actively promoting around the world. Tara McGowan (pictured above) was given an award by the Children’s Cultural Research Center in Tokyo for her international work. I’m sure they would like us to remind everyone of the cultural origins of kamishibai, but no one I have spoken to is worried about cultural appropriation.. IKAJA (the International Kamishibai Association of Japan) has produced seminars and workshops in many countries for the purpose of enlarging kamishibai's range. Far from causing "a muck storm," I simply maintain your concern about cultural appropriation of kamishibai is unfounded. I hope you will reconsider and sign this petition.

Dear Cherri - Thank-you for your signature and this comment. I would love to know more about the teachers you mentioned. Where are you located? We are eager to introduce more teachers to kamishibai. Sincerely, Walter Ritter Email: [email protected]

I’m from Japan and grew up with Kamishibai told by my mom or kindergarten teacher. It is a great tool for storytelling and hope it will be a new SIG!

In that case, you will be part of this group as soon as it is certified by NSN. We are getting very close to the minimum number of signatures, 28 - just 2 shy of the required 30. Of course, we hope to get more than 30. Thanks very much for your signature!

GREAT IDEA! And is it not reasonable that a 'membership driven organization' accommodate new ideas as a group? YES!
