The current state of the IRS is both frustrating and shows that are representatives do not fully understand the significant role the IRS can have in providing a sound fiscal solution to our current budget "challenges". Implement these recommendations now, please!

Today, an IRS collections revenue agent told me they would only accept accounting (CPA, EA, and attorney) fees (form 2848 representation) to represent my client would only be approved if the fees were 1) court ordered or 2) if it was to prepare an automatic six year payment plan. I was speaking for my client and providing the IRS with documentation to support the Form 433 financial information statement in order to set an appropriate payment plan.

End the insanity; fund the IRS and allow us to serve our clients in a professional, effective manner.

Budget for IRS administration should not affect the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights and should provide good service to the citizen taxpayers.

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MAJOR D CHANGES IN TAX LAW SYSTEMS BUT WILL CUTTING BUDGET EVERY YEAR IT IS GETTING TO BE A JOKE FOR TAX PREPARERS TAX AND TAX PAYERS ALIKE. GOVERNMENT CAN FIND MONEY FOR EVERY IRS WITCH HUNT THEY CHOOSE HOW CAN YOU EXPECT TO RUN YOUR BUSINESS IF YOU CUT YOU BUDGET EVERY YR. THIS CUT MAKE OVER A BILLION DOLLARS IN TWO YEARS.

I agree with Chris Neu. This is ridiculous. Congress has bitten of it's nose to spite it's face. Sure the IRS, like every other Govt agency, has done stupid things with other peoples money (OPM). What this calls for is more stringent rules on the administrative side and more oversight internally and externally. But to defund the organization that is in charge of bringing in the dough is even more stupid! Especially when that defunding also ties the hands of those who are trying to bring the taxpaying public into compliance.

This is a good starting point and all points listed are important to the successful filing of tax returns and responses to questions.

Something has to change. Either fund the IRS so we can get some work done or repeal the individual income tax!

The IRS continues to make it harder for us as tax professionals to do our job. When we can't do our job properly, the IRS doesn't collect the funds it is entitled to. You would think they'd understand the correlation.

I do not believe the petition goes far enough. Taxpayers have the constitutional right to be represented by anyone in whom they trust. The IRS has trampled that right with their new policy which allows representation ONLY by people who have been through the IRS's tax education program, itself declared unconstitutional. Regulatory "creep" needs to be addressed in this petition.

While not each point may be possible, the government needs to make it easier for the public to satisfy their tax obligations. They need to provide adequate staffing and systems which facilitate the fair collection of taxes and reporting of information.

I believe the plan is to break the tax system. This is another example of politicians ignoring the impact of their decisions. If we as CPA's look at this as an business issue the course of action should be straight forward. If you assign an organization a task give them the tools and funds to accomplish the task.
