PETITION TO THE HOUSE OF COMMONS IN PARLIAMENT ASSEMBLED We the undersigned residents of Prince Edward Island (PEI) and Cape Breton Island (CBI) draw the attention to the House of Commons to consider that our two islands of Canada face the highest consumer prices of all Canadians (except hyper-inflated Alberta); and WHEREAS the Northern Residents Tax Deduction (NRTD) was instituted to help off set these high costs of living for northern and remote communities; and WHEREAS the residents of these islands are excluded from eligibility for the NRTD, while costs of living for these northern maritime communities has continued to increase, and WHEREAS the cost in lost tax revenue to the Government of Canada would be comparatively insignificant while the economic benefits to these northern maritime communities would be substantial, We, the undersigned residents of Canada call upon Parliament to: qualify PEI and CBI as prescribed locations for eligible inclusion in the Northern Residents Tax Deduction.
