In response to the shameful decision by the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery to remove "A Fire in My Belly," a work of video art by the gay American artist David Wojnarowicz from the show "Hide/Seek: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture", we the undersigned urge the Gallery to restore the Wojnarowicz work to the exhibition. We believe it is a grievous mistake on the part of the Gallery's administration to censor the exhibition at the request of a few right-wing fanatics who object to the piece, and will boycott the Gallery until the Wojnarowicz has been restored to its place in the exhibition.
