There is almost zero transparency during recruitment. Chapters put on happy faces and new members have NO idea what really goes on until after initiation. The drama, the lack of loyalty or friendship. Certain sisters icing others out. My own child had no idea about the back stabbing and some of the drama until after initiation. Now she’s stuck. I personally didn’t realize how awful and in trouble my chapter was back in 1996. I’d have been a wonderful member to another group. The secret initiations aren’t a reason anymore since v almost all are available now n the internet.

I agree completely. My daughter is in this very situation. It is unfair to be made outcasted if the one you were a part of treats you badly. Several girls left from her pledge class due to harassment and bullying and abuse by many members.

If people can get divorced, give a child up for adoption, sell a house, transfer schools, things like that, they should be allowed to leave a sorority and join one that may be a better fit. Sign a NDA affirming you won’t share any secrets or confidentialities of the sorority you’re leaving, get it notarized, and be granted the freedom to find a new one if you desire.

I joined delta zeta at a school that was not the right fit for me. I was severely depressed and even dropped the sorority before finishing the year because I could not handle it. I have no transferred to a school that makes me feel happy and comfortable, but I’m still missing that peace of belonging and that’s what sorority’s are meant for. Watching my closest friends join a sisterhood and not getting a similar experience as them has really taken a toll on me. I hope one day we can fix this and make sure everyone feels like they belong somewhere.

I whole heartedly agree. My daughter transferred schools and did not join up with her chapter at the new school as they were not a good fit or what she would have chosen if at the new school originally. Now she is unable to be a part of the greek community at all vs joining another. Especially since the new school has a chapter that she is a legacy of through myself. Its very sad as I agree its for life when you are there to make the connections. My sisters are my lifelong friends but hers from the out if state school that she has only known 1 year will likely fade over time. She didn’t get the opportunity to hold positions and live in a house with them to create the lasting bonds.

My daughter joined a sorority at one college and had to transfer because of the schools program not accepting students. At the new college she isn’t forming the same relationships she did at the first college because the girls in that sorority don’t have the same mindset as the girls in the original sorority. She’s been told if she rushed at college 2 she wouldn’t have been in her current sorority, they see her fit in a different one better.

You should be able to switch sororities when it isn't a good fit or when you transfer schools

I totally agree, the process before initiation sucks, and in order to see if you are really a fit you have to wait until after you get initiated. It sucks that if we do that and do not fit in, we cannot find another sorority for ourselves.

If the frat boys can join a different frat then the girls in a sorority can do it too.

I have only been in my sorority for a few months, and it is now supposed to be shut down. I wish I would be able to join another sorority because that’s not fair.

This would mean so much to those who find that a specific sorority doesn't fit, especially when transferring schools. Thanks.
