Stop the Las Vegas Water Grab

Why take when they can make? Desalination is cheaper and trading desal water for more from the Colorado river doesn't require a pipeline.

At an estimated cost of 15 billion, this is equal to everyone in the state writing a check to SNWA for $5,000! Please do not share my email.

A recent visit to Great Basin National Park including tour of Lehman Cave confirms there is no surplus of water. Indeed, the Ranger leading the tour remarked about how prolonged drought had depleted groundwater to the extent of virtually eliminating seepage into the cave.

We can't afford another California debacle.

Water conservation is the cheapest and most reliable future source of water for Las Vegas. Drilling over 200 wells to unsustainably "mine" ancient groundwater reserves would be an insane waste of money and devastate the rural communities and wildlife that need that water to survive.

Water conservation is the key for all urban areas. If we simply continue to dig wells in distant aquifers, they will become depleted and the local areas will be devastated. We must do better!

Reduce the demand, dont exploit our land! the earth is not a warehouse for our needs!

As a native of White Pine County, I ask that Clark County not be allowed to ruin Northern Nevada by stealing and wasting the water that makes Northern Nevada the beautiful treasure it is.

Remember when LV was a dustbowl? Now they want more than their fair share of everyone else's water! The answer is NO, no more water for you from our DRY state and the other contiguous states. The only thing pretty about LV is its being close to Valley of Fire and Red Rock SP's. The rights on the Colo. R are or nearly depleted. Go buy an ice cube from the vanishing Artic or maybe the Columbia; want a fight, go there and try your antics and Wash. St will bash your brains in! (Tee-Hee)

More efficient use of water needs to be taught / adopted and foolish practices need to be abandoned - Las Vegas area judges need to stop the practice of forcing 'shuttered' golf courses to irrigate unused turf to appease a few wealthy neighbors.

Water is finite. There is no room for infinite growth in Nevada, nor this world. We cannot make the same mistakes that California and other states have made in water management. We must find a balance between preserving our natural resources and progressing as a society. The water usage proposed by the SNWA would disrupt that balance.

I strongly oppose any efforts by the Southern Nevada Water Authority to take water from farming, agrarian, and self-sustaining communities to support further unsustainable growth in an over-developed eco-system in Clark County.

As a Las Vegas resident, I strongly oppose the SNWA's attempts to choke rural Nevada for the continued growth of metropolitan areas instead of increased conservation efforts. I'm an outdoor enthusiast and used to enjoy camping and activities in the inland empire of California. That area is now dying or dead due to similar actions by LA.

As a Reno resident of over 10 years and looking to relocate in the near future to North Eastern Nevada, I strongly oppose this project. The potential impact to an area that is so dependent on the availability of water is to great.

Las Vegas is a parasite and it needs to be stopped before it destroys us all!!

Someone needs to remind the powers that be of John Wesley Powell's assessment of population growth along the Colorado river. It should be limited to what the river can sustain. It appears as though Las Vegas is past that point already. This water grab effort needs to stop. It is time to hit the brakes on the uncontrolled growth that is taking place in Las Vegas. The city needs to work within what the river can provide.

Water theft should not be an option. Maybe the Las Vegas Master Plan should be revisited and revised to limit extravagant expansion and implement further water conservation efforts.

Las Vegas needs to stop building and realize that they need to respect that many systems rely on the water, this is the worst idea.

Las Vegas cannot continue to grow unchecked. Subdivisions must not be approved before the water is secured tp service them. Existing customers have been deceived into believing that exponential growth will not impair their access to water or impact their rates. Both are occurring. Southern Nevada must learn to plan and secure water first, and develop only when their resources are secure.

As ground water levels continue to drop all over the west, the last thing the ranchers and farmers of rural eastern Nevada needs is to lose even more of this most precious of natural resources to a metropolis that has grown too big for its desert environs in the first place.

Preserve water culture.

I oppose the water pipeline coming from Elko, White Pine and any other county of the Great Basin down to Vegas. I would rather see a water pipeline constructed from the flood prone areas back East installed across the country to the drought restricted areas of the West before seeing the Great Basin drained of its water.

My family and I just visited the area for the first time and fell in love with the region. It is truly unique and it's management needs to be left to its current stewards. The SNWA is not ignorant to what will happen, they just don't care. Tax revenue keeps the machine running and in order to generate more money, they need more growth, which in turn requires more water. Absolutely shameful!

I do not think the water from northern counties should be piped to Las Vegas NV.

Nevada's landscape, wildlife, only national park, and rural communities would be devastated in order to allow Las Vegas' growth. If its growth occurs the water must come from elsewhere. Perhaps help finance California building desalinization capability.

It is past time to stop the Las Vegas sprawl and its water wasting ways. Keep the rest of Nevada beautiful, stop the water grab.

It's time to stop supporting the unsustainable growth of the human species in places that can't naturally support them in the first place. Overgrowth is not a meaningful excuse to create an ecological crisis, nor to allocate resources to an area that doesn't seem to take the management of their existing resources all that seriously.

Schemes like that proposed by the SNWA rely on outdated thinking that runs contrary to longterm survival for all involved at both ends of the chain. This project should not be permitted.
