We oppose siting a waste transfer station in rural Orange County. Orange County should immediately terminate all work on a WTS on rural West Hwy 54. Instead we suggest that the county seek an alternative site in a commercial industrial area, close to or in town, near a highway (I-40 or I-85), with water, sewer and preferably near power lines and rail. Any site selected should be part of plan to move to a sustainable waste management solution for the long term. Vendor transfer stations should be used to handle the county's needs until an alternative site is selected.
