2 Semesters and there falling behind you guys need to get these kids back in school

We NEED to have students return now. They DON’T BELONG ON A COMPUTER!

55% of the Novato Teachers Union members voted No to the hybrid teaching model. So a little over half of them want to work in their classroom? That’s all I need to read to know where they stand. Quickest way to get them into the classroom is to simply say you will only be paid if you teach in the classroom. We all know that’s not happening, the Union is “too powerful”, let’s see how much clout they have when the exodus begins. Everything’s connected, marginal schools mean decreased property values, that means less taxes, so good luck with your plan.

Born and raised in Novato. Now sending my kids to school in Novato—- well, kind of. Everyone is trying their best to make this remote thing work, but its not working. Another thing not working are the ‘negotiations’ between NUSD and NFT. Get rid of all this bureaucratic bull and make the necessary concessions to get the kids back in school. And please don’t waste any more money on consultants, common sense is free.

The toll remote learning is taking on our children will be felt for years. Please get a solution in place and get them into school. They are our future and that future is suffering right now.

Our children are suffering. Technology companies that were already as big and powerful as small countries have multiplied in value and power this year, and they do a good job convincing us that its ok for our kids to be on screens all day. Guess what? It isn’t. Let’s pretend we didn’t have Apple and Google and Amazon and Zoom to lazily fall back on here. What would the plan be? It certainly wouldn’t be this, so lets figure it out. I’m fortunate enough to own a home in Marin County. I pay property taxes. I prefer to support public schools over private because I believe they are more equitable across class and race lines. If this is still the plan for NUSD, our family may get to the point where we need to protect our own children with a move to private school. Any concerned parent would and I’m sure many have already. But that solution saddens and frustrates me. Because it leads to even more division and inequity between the haves and have-nots. And as a member of the potential “haves” in this scenario and a lifelong believer in capitalism, thats not the society I want anymore. It doesn’t work. Look around. Teachers are essential workers. They can and should be provided with the resources to safely teach our students in-person. Politics aside, lets agree COVID isnt going away anytime soon, and a magic vaccine making a difference in the next few months is not a scenario any reasonable thinking person would count on. It’s time to adapt and stop living in shock and fear. Change starts here. Use whatever power you have Mr. Cosca to protect our children’s mental health and future, or step aside and empower someone else who wants to act.

Using droplet precaution measures judiciously, teachers and students can work cooperatively together to create a safer in-person school environment. How can we improve what we cannot practice? Allow safety measures to be *practiced.*

If possible to open schools safely I believe it should be done. It is crucial for students to get back in the classroom. Also, teachers are essential workers and Should be back in the classroom.

It’s unacceptable that Novato private schools have returned to in-person learning. The stress on our students and teachers is devastating. The district had ample time to prepare.

Get the little ones back in school where they learn social skills that cannot be taught on a screen. If the Social Dilema teaches us anything it is the destruction of children through the use of technology.

The District has had ample time to prepare for the reopening and a delay until the end of Oct or later is really unfortunate and disheartening. Yes, we want the teachers and children to be safe, of course. Other school districts in the Country (and around the World) have reopened and perhaps the District and Teachers can look them for guidance.

Please. It is time and can be done safely.

Time to open up. I feel the NTF is equally to blame as we see Tam and San Rafael teachers already committed to goin back. Having traveled to Utah to allow son to be able to take the ACT, I witnessed schools operating full and safe. While traveling in Pa and DE recently, Same thing. Open and safe. Friends in Reno, 190 miles to the East...open and safe. NUSD and NTF- stop the politics and blockage or the exodus of students will continue, your budgets will continue to seize and your next attempt to have the parcel tax to support these failed antics will again NOT be supported causing further issues and the chance of the state taking over the administration of this district which will cause further layoffs to NUSD and a big hit to NTF....do the math, kids mental health is getting g crushed and NUSD could fail if the state takes over.

As a mental health crisis professional, I am seeing first hand the effect that keeping kids out of in-person school is having, and it’s alarming. Please, let’s safely get our kids back in school!
