Nova Scotia Needs Postpartum and Breastfeeding Support

Postpartum support

Please do not abandon new mothers and babies when they need you most. Giving new families the best start once they leave the birthing room pays off over and over again, for the physical and mental health of all involved.

This is so sad and unfortunate. Denying support to new mothers seems entirely backwards.

Will the Dept of Health pay for the ramifications of people acting on inaccurate or misleading info they find online? You can't legally advocate that citizens seek medical advice from any source but a certified health care professional. You should tread lightly here, lest in your haste to save pennies you cost the government (moreover, the people!!!) millions of dollars in class ation lawsuits.

These services should be deemed essential, it's sad to think our government would turn to this area to cut costs. If you need to cut costs, look within where you are and the outrageous salaries people are making for work that is not needed or could be done via Internet!!!!

This is an essential service. Please do not cut it. New mothers and families need it. It's such a small thing public health can do that goes such a long way.

This is a mistake. You will spend more money on unnecessary hospital visits and late treatment of postpartum as a result.

Wow this is so sad! I have used both the pre and post natal services. Both were fantastic! The public health nurses were amazing and got me through the first couple of rough weeks adjusting as a new mom. Breastfeeding would not have been a success without their home visits! I hope something can be done to change these cuts!!!

As a future pediatrician and mother of two, I think this is a bad decision.

The home visit the morning after we brought our newborn home saved our sanity. Online is not remotely useful. 99% of it is total crap, and with a newborn you have no way to distinguish the good from the bad.

The postpartum visits from the public health nurse were a blessing. With no family nearby, my husband and I were so grateful to the calm guidance and reassuirng support provided by the public health nurse, who visited me several times. She was a huge help for my breast feeding efforts in the early days when all I wanted to do was quit, and very reassuring when we were worried about our baby's initial in-hospital weight loss, helping to weigh her and check-in with progress.

In support of all of my friends and family who have or will ever have children. It is important that communities and the government support new parents through this difficult time.

This service was critical to the health of me and my child postpartum. It was also vital that the support came to my home at this time--it really is the only way to effectively assist with nursing issues. Given what we know of the importance of such care and follow up I am shocked that the government would cut this service. This is not acceptable.

I developed mastitis when my daughter was 4 weeks old. It was the absolute lowest point for me. The home visit from the public health nurse--even just knowing she was coming the next day, and then being reassured that it would get better--kept me going, through the pain, and the uncertainty, and the stress. I cannot fathom why the government would cancel this crucially important service. It didn't only

the benefits of breastfeeding are well-documented and incontrivertible. There are fewer drains on our healthcare system when we do everythingwe can to support healthy motheres and babies. These cuts are short-sighted aand harmful!

This is going to affect mothers, babies, families in a negative way. Such a POOR decision.
