Notre Dame Law School Immigration Law Class/Clinic

Whether or not you are interested in immigration law, we still deserve the opportunity to learn about this controversial area of study. Especially with presidential elections coming up, the recent Supreme Court decision regarding SB 2010, and President Obama's immigration executive order, it is essential Notre Dame trains its students to deal with the growing needs of society. While there is currently an immigration law course offered at Notre Dame Law School, it is not offered every year. Moreover, there ought to be an immigration clinic where students can get hands on experience in the quickly growing area of immigration law. As an immigrant myself, I know that immigration law deals with social justice, human rights, civil rights, and serving the needs of the poor, all of which are aligned with our school's central mission of "educating a different kind of lawyer". We don't even have a civil rights law course offered every semester, and we have few courses that deal with social justice issues. With the Center for Civil and Human Rights, the Kellogg Institute for International Studies and the Institute for Latino Studies, I feel we have enough resources to build a strong program. The recent increase in tuition should cover courses that students are passionate about, thus I ask for your support as we take on the task to convince Associate Dean Mayer we need a stronger immigration law program.
