Belmont University's decision to appoint former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to its new Doyle Rogers Distinguished Chair of Law is a disgrace. During his time in Washington, Gonzales politicized the Justice Department, justified torture, dismissed the Geneva Conventions, and stonewalled Congressional inquiries into his activities. He should not be hired to represent Belmont University and its new College of Law.
