Notification of parents for communicable diseases/conditions that require treatment
We, the parents of Somerville school children, are requesting that the Somerville School District adopt a policy of immediate notification to parents of children in an affected classroom upon notification to the district of any communicable disease or condition that requires treatment (such as, but not limited to, Strep, lice, etc.) when the district receives notification of the first instance of such disease or condition. As concerned parents we feel that the district's stated policy of waiting until a "cluster" develops does not provide us with the information necessary to make proper decisions regarding the health of our children, and it in fact strips us of our ability to monitor and to quickly and appropriately respond when our children develop symptoms. We feel that the current policy ensures the spread of disease rather than contribute to the containment and quick treatment of disease.
