Stop Shellfish Cross Contamination in Restaurats
It has become evident that more and more people are having allergic reactions to shellfish. Having been diagnosed years ago I know how it feels to have your throat start to close down due to the allergy. People that I know that used to be able to eat shrimp, crab, lobster are starting to react to them. Those of us that deal with this issue are in the same boat that peanut eaters are in. On a daily basis chef's across the country are cooking shrimp and steak or chicken next to each other, using a blackened powder to make a meal wth little thought to the number of people that will suffer some form of allergic reaction up to and including Anaphylactic shock. Sushi bars, and Japanese restaurants are especially bad. The reality is that those of us that suffer end up with epi pins or other forms of antihistamines nearby. Needless to say it can take the fun out of eating out. I believe that we deserve the same protection offerd to peanut eaters. It would not burden the business owner a great deal as it requires simple steps to keep seperation of food groups. Also required should be notice of any Shellfish extract used in certain dishes. Please give this petition careful consideration, this simple act can save lives as well as enhance the lives of hundred's of thousands of people who suffer Shellfish allergies.Pass this along to your lawmakers and save a life.
