Petition Target to stop bagging our goods in plastic bags. Charge us instead to bag in paper or cloth, which will encourage us to bring in our own bags.

Plastic is made from oil, which is a non-renewable resource.

Plastic bags are made for one-time use, then get thrown out, ending up in our landfills and waterways for hundreds of years.

A thousand miles off the coast of California there is a "garbage patch" the size of Texas and growing. Sea creatures, like turtles, ingest the plastic which can kill them if it blocks their stomach openings. Plankton-eating creatures eat the small particles as the plastic breaks down which enters the food chain and ends up on our dinner tables.

This petition will be sent to the corporate offices by September 25th. 2011.
