The North Pole Pub, a much-loved centre of our immediate community and a long-standing part of its history, is under threat. Its owners, the Bank of Ireland, are looking to sell it to developers and it will be replaced most likely with one of the big supermarket chains local stores. This will ruin the local shops on the opposite side of the street, and cause a soulless eyesore in the midst of our local precinct. Communities need a local pub, a meeting place, somewhere to chill out after work…. DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN. Save the pub and SAVE OUR COMMUNITY.
I have spent half my life in that pub and watching the bank try to tear it down breaks my heart. We need to hit the two hundred and fifty signature mark today to show the council that we are not going to let our local history be buried under a supermarket shelf.

I spent the morning walking past the pub and thinking about the decades of history that the bank is so eager to erase. We are staying loud because the silence from the owners only confirms they think we will just roll over. This place belongs to us and I am not giving up until they understand that.
