Say YES to Amherst neighborhoods.


We, the undersigned residents of Amherst, support the Master Plan mandate to: 
“Maintain existing community character, encourage vitality in downtown and village centers…. a focus for the community’s economic life, cultural vigor and social activity, and promote an ethic of sustainable environmental and energy practices.”   
We believe that such a vision first requires attention to fundamental planning issues of :  

• improving infrastructure, traffic flow and services
• revitalizing the North Amherst civic core 
  
• addressing unprotected resources and environmental challenges 
  
• adopting and enforcing  general bylaws to address student housing issues 
  

The planning board has been unable to provide the potential number of new residents or the impact on traffic, conservation areas, and public services that the new zoning would allow.  
The finance board has taken a position of No Recommendation voting  4-2 that it was impossible to know whether there would be a net gain for the Town under the new zoning.
