We the undersigned, draw attention of the BC Liberal government, Premier Gordon Campbell and all Liberal MLA's to the following: THAT we express strong opposition to the proposal to construct a prison/remand facility at the site 3405 to 3705 Willingdon Ave, Burnaby. THAT the area surrounding Canada Way and Willingdon Avenue contains numerous community facilities, including schools, child care facilities, churches, community centers and a hospital, as well as private residences; a prison facility "would negatively impact the community's perception of public safety" (City of Burnaby File Ref. 22000.01). THAT no community consultation has been solicited by the Provincial Government, Ministry of Public Safety or Solicitor General's office despite having indicated that a consultation process would be forthcoming. THEREFORE, your petitioners call upon the BC Government to cancel all plans to put a provincial remand facility at the site of 3405 - 3407 Willingdon Avenue, Burnaby, British Columbia.
