This petition will remain active for the rest of 2011 (expires 31/12/2011) The petition is to be presented to the Prime Minister to ask for all Religious Groups to be excluded from opening 'Free' Schools. We believe Religion and Faith should be kept for outside school activities and should not play any direct role in the teachings of the national curriculum, let alone in the actual setting up and management of the 'School'. There are many places across the country, in every town and city, Churches, Mosques, Temples, Synagogues etc. where groups who follow the same faith can meet, learn and practice their faith. Great Britain is renowned for freedom of speech and for one of the worlds oldest and most fair legal systems. The legal systems, rights and wrongs and societies values are all deeply rooted into the national curriculum and at times can clash with various religious teachings. Most notably the clashes between British and Sharia Law and the differences between scientific fact and biblical stories (Evolution vs. Adam & Eve). There is a massive difference between culture & heritage and actual religion. We ask that children be proud of and embrace their culture but teaching and management in schools should be geared toward facts and science and improving the learners abilities.
