Dear Petitioners, Electronic Waste or E-Waste are obsolete electronics that have been dumped in developing countries because developed countries don't want to pay for expensive, cleaner, recycling of dead electronics. For example, a major dumping ground is the Agbogbloshie scrap market, in Ghana. Children desperate for money go to the scrap market and burn computers, cell phones, televisions and other electronics to melt the plastic and retrieve copper which they sell to dealers who then sell them to nearby industries. When the children burn the electronics, the harmful chemicals inside leach into the air and contaminate the environment and the Ghanaians. The toxins can lower IQ, cause behavioral issues and academic performance. Support this Petition to help the Ghanaian children and pressure companies to recycle their new eco-friendly products!
