It should be illegal for companies to discriminate and reject disabled applicants on the grounds of disability.

Hi everyone, I Have made this petition because I find it appalling that in the 21st century, companies still discriminate against disabled applicants, especially without giving them a chance to prove that they are perfectly capable of doing the job. I have tried to apply for many different companies to do things such as volunteering, fundraising, teaching English abroad and on the companies’ websites (the Japanese exchange and teaching program’s website in particular) I see things such as “must be in good mental and physical health to apply” and when I questioned one of their representatives about this and asked whether disabled people could apply, the answer I got was extremely disappointing. Their representative explained that although there is nothing stopping me from applying, realistically it will be very difficult to get the place due to my disability. I found this very judgmental and unintelligent as they didn’t even ask what my disability was or how it affects my daily life, so they shouldn’t assume I can’t do the job or apply. I believe we need to fight for our rights and that disabled people have a right to work or volunteer and have the same opportunities as everyone else. We must not accept being ostracized by society or by companies who do not understand disabilities and judge applicants by a label that society has given them and not by their skills, enthusiasm to work and so on. Please help me prove that disabled people can work just as hard, if not harder and can be more dedicated than people with no problems. We are capable of doing just as well or even better than everyone else and thus we deserve the same opportunities and chances when it comes to being considered for a job. Thank you for your time and please sign the petition
