As parents of Lake Oswego Elementary School students, we are deeply concerned about Dr. Korach's and the School Board’s proposal to take our 6th grade students from the security of their current elementary schools and place them in a middle school environment. 

Numerous studies have shown that 6th grade students who are placed in middle schools are more prone to early sexual activity, exposed to alcohol and drug use, and 6th graders overall feel overwhelmed by the larger, less personal schools - which are often further from their home.

Simply put, there are numerous alternative solutions to the funding challenge our schools face which do not involve placing our young 6th grade children into a potentially harmful environment.

 
As such, we are signing this petition to demand that Dr. Korach and the School Board pursue another course of action that maintains the safe and secure environment the 6th grade children in Lake Oswego have a right to and indeed what we are known for.

Many of us moved to Lake Oswego solely for our excellent school system- go back to the drawing board please!
