NoGoodwillStoreat495NorthMain Alpharetta
To: Alpharetta Mayor and City Council
This is a petition to communicate that Alpheratta residents do not support the
proposed development of a Goodwill store at 495 North Main Street. Mr.
James Kim with SRJ Enterprises is in the process of trying to sell the property
to Goodwill Industries to develop a Goodwill location with a processing plant
(see www.onefinal.com for more information). The signers of this petition
think that the development of this property IS NOT in the best interest of
Alpharetta and the surrounding neighborhoods for the following reasons:
- 495 North Main Street
shares property lines and a street with a residential neighborhood (Winthrope Park). This raises safety concerns
with children in the neighborhood and the school bus stop located at the corner
of the proposed building site. The site is essentially located within the
neighborhood as it is bordered on 2 of 4 sides by Winthrope Park.
- Trash is a concern as individuals can access and 'dump' trash during
overnight hours. In addition, the dumpsters and recycling facilities
required for a Goodwill site should not be located in a residential area but in
a more commercialized/industrial area of the city.
- The proposed building is not consistent in form and function with other
establishments on Main Street
(small businesses and office buildings) and is not conducive
to the residential nature of the area.
- The commercial vacancy rate in Alpharetta suggests that an already developed
site is available for this use. Many of these properties North of the
site are more industrialized and are a better fit for this type of use.
We support the concept of a Goodwill in Alpharetta, but not at or near this
location.
