The recent Throne Speech is promoting a change to our national athem to remove the inappropriate sexist reference to "son" There is going to be a process to determine how this best be done, as yet to be determined. In 1980 the so called Weir version was changed from a secular form to the current religious form making reference to "God"
Weir version:
O Canada! Our home and native land True patriot love in all thy sons command. With glowing hearts we see thee rise The True North strong and free! And stand on guard, O Canada We stand on guard for thee. O Canada, glorious and free, We stand on guard, we stand on guard for thee. O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
It is my contention that Canada has become a multicultural country and reference to an entity such as god is not appropriate. If you agree that God and Son should be removed from the anthem and replaced with something more inclusive or appropriate please sign this petition.
Citizens must keep our land glorious and free. To keep reference to God is to force a majority faith movement on all persons singing the anthem. This includes forcing a majority faith movement on all students and school employees who are expected to sing this daily at schools across Canada. God save the Queen also needs to be dropped from all public ceremonies. Again the expectation for all persons to sing it constitutes a majority faith movement in a public sphere, which our supreme Court had ruled unconstitutional back in 2015.
