Proposals for the closure of Caribbean Studies@London Metropolitan University have  commenced ALREADY! In recent times the department have lost the well respected Prof Jean Stubbs due to the universities poor management of funds (http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2009/dec/17/london-met-governors-forced-out). Now the threat of more cuts promises to not only disrupt student efforts in exams and dissertations, but will seriously stop future students from benefiting from one of the most engaging study courses Britain has to offer!!! Very few are aware of the integral role the Caribbean has played in the privileges we have and take for granted today (freedom rights), in fact, fewer still understand the impact the region has had on Western Civilisation and thus the World today. Names such as Louise Bennett, C.L.R. James, Claudia Jones, Franz Fanon, Mrs Amy Jacques Garvey, Aime Cesaire, Nanny of the Maroons, Fidel Castro, Una Marson, E. K. Brathwaite, J. J. Thomas, Dr. E Williams... ALL CARIBBEAN

The consideration alone is an absolute outrage as courses like these need more exposure to society for the benefits of distributing knowledge such as the origins of HUMAN RIGHTS! SIGN the petition NOW and stop the discussions for closure and start the discussions for improvement.
