At the time of this writing, Illinois is at a 9.2% unemployment rate, which is approximately 1.1 million Illinois residents without a job. In Winnebago county, the unemployment rate is 14.5%, the worst in the state, which is approximately 43,500 Winnebago County residents without a job. With these staggering numbers, one has to wonder why Illinois remains an 'at will' state. An employer with the ability to fire someone based on nothing at all, just because they feel like it. The employee, unless they can prove that the termination was discriminatory, is now without a employment for no reason at all. For these reasons, we the people have to tell our government that 'at will' is no good in the current economy or job market.
