We complain about and object to Croydon Council's decision at its Traffic Management Cabinet Committee on 9-2-11 to impose extended Controlled Parking and Charges in the Mayday area in the northern part of NORTH CPZ. We complain about and object to the decision to impose these CPZ controls and charges in the evenings after 5pm, and we complain about and object to them being imposed on Sundays. These CPZ controls and charges would badly affect residents and businesses in the area, and their visitors, including Mayday Hospital. We call on the council to reverse this decision. We note that at the TMCC meeting, the council admitted it has received over 40 objections and a 108 signature petition from this area to the proposal, as well as thousands of other objections that objected to any extension of CPZ controls in any of the 5 CPZ's around central Croydon, which included the Mayday area. We note also that the council did not claim any support for the extension to the Mayday area during the consultation. Instead the council claimed that those who did not object must be assumed to be happy with it. We say just putting up street notices is not enough to make people aware of the council's plans. We note that a Cabinet member admitted at TMCC on 9-2-11 that this proposal was motivated by a council desire to increase income, which is an unlawful aim. We note that the MP for Croydon Central strongly criticised the council at the TMCC meeting, saying "The legal minimum is not enough" "The council should go further" and should have written to everyone affected. "The council got this wrong". We note that the report to TMCC contained numerous errors, in particularly failing to quote the council e-petition text correctly - which made clear that 622 had objected to any increase in CPZ hours anywhere - including the Mayday area. We note the council website pledge to actively consult the public when considering major changes to parking restrictions. We say if the council believes there is really any genuine need or good reason to impose these controls, then it should now conduct a proper and genuine consultation with the residents and businesses in the Mayday area. This means delivering a letter to every address in the area, explaining what is proposed and why, and spelling out fairly the case for and the case against the change, and asking residents to say YES or NO to the proposal.
