I object to Costa Clarkston on the basis of keep trade local and independent. We have the opportunity to support individual family businesses, pay local people's wages and feed the local system by keeping international companies out. This goes against the grain of community empowerment and development!

Let's support our great local small businesses and this means a resounding NO to Costa and other chains.

There is absolutely no need for another coffee shop in Clarkston, particularly an aggressive chain that will try to put local shops out of business.

We already have a fantastic range of places to eat and drink in Clarkston. Not only does the proposed Costa clearly fail to offer anything new in the area, it is also a direct threat to those locally owned and run businesses. East Renfrewshire do next to nothing to help Clarkston develop as a local shopping area, and in my view letting in Costa could well result in even more empty units longer term because large coffee chains can and do operate at a loss in the short term in order to obtain a market share and close down the competition. Furthermore, the small independents are run by people who live locally. If local people spend their cash in shops run by local people, who in turn spend their own income locally, the local economy benefits. Spend your hard-earned money in Costa and it goes straight into a corporate machine. I have no connection to any of the businesses affected other than that I am a regular customer, and am signing purely as a local resident, but I hope that ERC will listen and say "no" to Costa as well as upping their game about developing a diverse commercial area in Clarkston that has more than coffee shops and charity shops.

We don't need a corporate behemoth with sub standard coffee in the area when we have gems like Cafe Roma, Dandy's Deli, Eat Deli and Something serving excellent coffee alongside imaginative menus and hard to find produce. If Costa kills any of those local businesses it will be a travesty.

Not another coffee shop. Costa have dubious coffee anyway. No, it would be wrong to give Costa permission to open in Clarkston.

We do not need or want Costa with Clarkston. This will damage small shops who offer much more than some big brand churning out horrific coffee off the conveyor belt. Show East Renfrewshire Council they are wrong yet again much like the parking charges at peak hours.

We have plenty of nice, independent, places for coffee so there's no need for a large chain. Shop local, support locals.

As a small independent coffee shop owner within another area however having lived in Clarkston for over 25 years feel that there is no need for a big brand lime costa to open, there is enough small food businesses within the area to accommodate all kinds of clientele, this does not fill a gap in the market to attract new customers to Clarkston all you will do is shut down smaller businesses and have more empty shops I see this happening everywhere and worry about this happening to myself at some point in the future, we need more independent and less big brands you find you get better service and better products from us little people
