The amount of boats throwing a wake is huge; sad news it's not intentional but caused by the inexperienced. Marking it would make such a positive difference.

I've been on Kirk Bluff for 20 years. The world is a changing place, the May River is not an exception. Time to get with it.

Something needs to be done about this. Our dock Is being destroyed day after day by boat wake. Beaufort can do better than this

I live on Kirk Bluff. 2 repairs to my dock in the last 4 WEEKS! It is no fun to sit on the dock anymore! Few boaters seem to know these rules from SCDNR website: "In South Carolina, vessels may not be operated in excess of idle speed within 50 feet of an anchored vessel, wharf, pier, dock, or a person in the water."
Sometimes it's dangerous to be standing because the dock is rolling so much. Our drinks get knocked over constantly, and people seem clueless. We have flagged people down because they are so close, pointed out the channel marker across the way and so many times the response is "what's a channel marker?" Education is needed too, Permitting/licensing? The public should be able to know that those operating a boat understand the rules of the road.

This area needs a NO WAKE zone because of the high traffic it sees and the fact we are on such a high bluff. Erosion is difficult to control with so much water traffic. Please give this petition your utmost consideration.
Thank you.

The sandbar is popular but does have it's negative impacts. Idiots screaming down the river blasting wakes in to the banks and irresponsible pet owners not cleaning up after their dogs that do their business on the sandbar all to have it wash up the creeks.

Those folks too! However many people enjoy the May River that don't have the priveledge of living on it. And because this petition is more about Water Safety and Environmental preservation (of the river, shorelines, banks), "other people" should have a voice. We must all be good stewards of the May River, whether we live on it, across the street from it, or miles away from it. Those who own or enjoy eco-tourism businesses operating within the May River also are signing in agreement. Any one you know on or has an interest in the May River, we'd appreciate your passing this petition onto them! Thanks for your good comment! --Wyatt
Good comment. We've been doing our best at contacting mainly just those folks. Larger however than just those who live along the no wake segment, are any people who enjoy the May River. May

I lived along the River for 28 years and never want the beauty of it spoiled. The pristine waters are vital to all the wildlife the River supports. It needs to be preserved for many future generations to come.

I believe that to get a true representation, this petition should be directed only to the residents/owners along the May River frontage. General public input is not indicative of the desires of those affected.

Boats speed by & disrespect those of us with boats @ our docks & they never look back. What is annoying is there is plenty of River room away from dock areas to speed,,,Must say Not all... but too many ..yes we need a no wake zone
