No to the plans for destroying the character of the historic centre of Olhão in Portugal

The centre of Olhao is why we love the place - its originality, unspoilt and charm. Don't try to mend it if it ain't broke.

We have been visiting Olhao from the UK for the past 25 years precisely because of it's unspoiled historic centre. Recent changes to the lighting and squares have done much to destroy the town's beauty and charm and it would be devastating if further insensitive and inappropriate development took place. Tourists are more likely to be drawn to an unspoiled old town than the faceless and anonymous "modernised" town planners seem to be aiming for. Stop further destruction of Olhao's precious heritage before it's too late.

The city center of Olhão has evolved its character through the slow drip of time. Its beauty, grace and charm is self evident and does not require easy quick transformative interventions.

This is not modernisation but cultural loss

Stop wasting money on these plans. Spend some on cleaning up the rubbish all over the town and stopping the ridiculous number of vehicles that clog up the centre everyday but especially Saturdays. Visitors come to look at something different not uniform standardised street scenes.

I live on the house on the white corner house and I enjoy spending lovely evenings with views of the sea. I will no longer be able to see the sea if an ugly building is in the way. It will be an eye saw, DO NOT build it!

The old town with its fabulous cobbled streets must be preserved and not destroyed. The charm will be lost and all your European house owners will leave!

The lack of artistic and aesthetic culture of the administration agents

Please do not spoil yet another very special place - make good what is already there.

Estamos a querer matar a galinha dos ovos de ouro. Este presidente quer acabar com aquilo que torna Olhão único para se colocar ombro a ombro com armação de pera, quarteira, Portimão e outros sítios desagradáveis que já constam nos melhores guias turísticos como "Locais a evitar " Não façam esta tremenda asneira! Qual é o benefício para os olhanenses em geral? José da Marta

É com este tipo de "intervenientes" que o nosso património está numa "selvajaria".

Não deixem estragar mais ainda o Algarve.

Ruining cultural heritage is easy, too easy. I would advise the authorities in charge to reconsider the plans.
