They actually dropped the whole scheme and I am honestly still reeling from the news. It turns out that when enough people push back against overreach they really do have to listen eventually. We should probably keep an eye on things just in case they try to dress this up …

We the undersigned believe that the plan to give every child in Scotland a state named protector, from birth, is potentially detrimental to parents and children, practically impossible and a worrying over the top form of state interference into families.

I honestly never expected this kind of momentum when I started this whole thing on a whim because the idea of a state appointee just sitting there watching over every single family felt so wrong to me. It is surreal to see so many people who clearly agree that this level of interference is just way too much even if I am still trying to wrap my head around why anyone thought this was a good plan in the first place.

One size glove policy does not fit all! Most parents are doing an admirable job, do not tar them with the same brush as the ones who don't care enough!
I dislike the increasingly authoritarian tone of the Scottish Government. This legislation is uncosted, unwanted and also unnecessary in the vast number of cases.
This will be a total waste of money and an added responsibility for named persons.The logistics of applying this have not been fully considered.It is taking responsibility away from parents.Spend the money on teaching parenting skills!
I think the danger was summed up in Aileen Campbell's Children's Minister) comment - "Parents have a role too". !!!

Children already have guardians -their parents. Why ever would the state want to substitute them for one of its representatives? Doesn't it trust Scottish parents?
