As a taxpayer in Sarasota County, I urge the County Commission to recognize that the current charm and character of Siesta Key is key to the County's economic vitality. It is an alternative to Longboat Key or the east coast of Florida. Mega hotels on Siesta Key will kill the golden goose that drives Sarasota County's prosperity. Say no to the mega hotel.

It is not good for anyone other than the few business owners and the owners of the project. The residents are the people of the island and outnumber the few that would profit by several orders of magnitude

Please leave Siesta the way it is!! I love to come here for vacation due to it's unique, but wonderful atmosphere. This will completely take away from the whole area.

Approving a a proposal that allows an exemption in our current density and size limits for hotels would forever change Siesta Key and destroy her beauty and charm.
Traffic is already far too heavy. Those wanting to stay in megahotels will find them on the mainland. This proposal benefits only the developers.

We are sick and tired of our commissioners giving developers all the changes they want to the regulations, it gives them the power to maximize the density just so they can increase their profits at our expense and degradation of our quality of life as we have known it for so many years. We are fed up so smell the g.d. coffee commissioners!!!!

Approving a variance to allow mid / high rise hotels on Siesta Key will open a door that can never be closed as will changing your master plan to allow higher density. That one variance will set a precedent that others will use to do the same. Some would have you believe you need more accommodations to serve all those who want to visit SK. But there comes a point when a barrier island hits the limit of humanity it can sustain comfortably and SK is getting close to that threshold. If you do try to accommodate everyone, there will be nothing left - we vacationers will literally love you to death. Some would argue that's the inevitable evolution of a popular destination. Others would disagree and site the very reason for zoning regs and boards elected to enforce those regs is to fight back the people who pop up occasionally to put their own self interest ahead of everyone else and the community. I've spent every spring on SK since 2000 - it's the place in my dreams. I hope you do what you can to stop the dark forces. Careful, they'll try to wear you down with compromise. Dig in your heels and 'nip it in the bud' - insist new development fit within your current zoning plan. Otherwise they are wasting everyone's time with meetings that are as much about measuring the will of the SK community as they are about reviewing vague concepts.
