They can use contraception to control numbers, just put it in food. It works elsewhere.

I strongly believe there are better ways of managing the Herring Gull population than organising a cull. These birds are already declining in numbers naturally, man doesn't need to hasten their decline.

Here we go again. Mans insatiable desire to have power over everything..We take their food from the ocean, flaunt our food in front of them and then wonder why they do as they do. Think about it!

WE are the problem NOT seagulls. We litter and destroy our beautiful parks and beaches, we pollute their oceans and then whinge about them coming in to look for food. They, like all animals, deserve life

Why does mankind think they have the right to determine how many of a species must die...??? People are so stooped about controlling everything in the world.

I have lived by the sea all my life and the gulls are part of life here. Leave them alone!

Leave them alone. Don't punish all for the actions of a few. Unjust. Disgusting.

Man has messed with the ecosystem and targeting individual species will make it worse! Evidenced by the failure of the Badger Cull in Gloucestershire, etc etc... The list goes on

I am not in favour of culls as they distort the natural balance of nature.

Why is our first response always to kill animals. It's a failure of the imagination and morality.

I live by the sea and they drive me mad ripping open bin bags and sometimes terrorising smaller birds, but that doesn't give us the right to kill them.

This is so absolutely idiotic: do these people, who come up with these stupid 'cull-fancies' know anything about population dynamics and ecology (you would hope, wouldn't you?). Firstly, a cull of the highly successful & resourceful gulls will make absolutely no difference to their numbers: immediately yes of course, but mid-to long term you will have times when they'll be huge flocks, perhaps more than ever. On- the- spot Fines for people feeding them, firstly, if they're really such a problem to tourism?? FINE people, businesses and Local Authorities for not managing their food wastes effectively. It's us that's the problem, the gulls have just capitalised on our wasteful and 'economics' obsessed society. It seems to be a typical right-wing knee jerk reaction to any animal perceived as causing a problem - KILL IT! Psychopaths often start their 'careers' by hurting and killing animals????
