I attend and buy work from this exhibition every year.. I have met Miss Hambling on a few occasion and find her very rude and I can easily see how she can be offensive..good luck with getting your point across !

These were very ugly comments made worse not only because there was a lone African present to be offended by them, but because the audience laughed and supported her 'casual' racism supporting the institution of African enslavement.
We can only imagine the horrors depicted in the Dorian Greyesque portrait Maggie Hambling hides of herself somewhere in her 'fine' art studio.

If more people stood vocally against this sort of thing it would be a good thing. Art schools should not be sending the message that 'casual' racism is okay because of their financial or social interests, and they should be supporting their students unconditionally. In solidarity.
