SAY NO TO HEATHROW EXPANSION

After 25 years under an increasingly noisy flightpath over Chiswick, we were driven to move to an area less overflown. I can personally testify to the unbearable intrusion into lives by planes landing every minute 75% of the time. A ban on night flights is a farce. You get 5 hours at the most before those long haul jumbos come thundering in, one after the other. Additional runway/s will spread this blight to areas hitherto undisturbed and that would be appalling for additional hundreds of thousands of people. I simply don't understand why a new airport in the Estuary cannot be built to service the whole country through high speed rail connection. Nobody would be overflown, and just think of all the jobs the project would bring. Furthermore, all the land at Heathrow (already serviced by good transport) could be developed to provide housing for all the people we are told are unable to live in London.

It is clear that the local populace do not want more planes an alternative solution will have to be found.

The existing noise pollution is bad for health. My wife suffers from cancer and her treatment is hampered by an inability to sleep due to aircraft noise. Other major cities do not have such a widespread problem. Any proposal to make this situation even worse must be rejected.

The time surely has come for Govt to honour its commitments and stand up for the residents against the lazy business interests

Heathrow expansion is not the answer. A new airport in the Thames Estuary must be built with the relevant transport links. This is more important than HS2

The flights of planes over Barnes heading to Heathrow are, firstly very bad for the health of residents. Several flights already pass over Barnes before and after the too liberal limits of 6am and 11pm. This ruins the residents' sleep and will have serious consequences on their health and the resultant cost to the NHS. Secondly, we live in a time of major terrorist incidents. It is inevitable that with so many planes flying over the capital city, one group will target them for a serious headline grabbing demonstration of terrorism. The blood of those who die will be on the hands of the perpetrators who refused to close Heathrow. I doubt that those in BAA who appear to me to be solely driven by personal financial gain and have no care for anyone else, will mind in the least. But what of the politicians who allowed them to do it? Will they be brought to trial? There cannot be any expansion of Heathrow. It should be closed.

I totally oppose any further expansion. In Richmond our lives are blighted already by the constant noise, and air traffic control "improvments" mean that when we look up we can see three aeroplanes following each other to land ay any time.

The runways are not the only problem, you'd never get people there on the roads which are already overcrowded!!

Heathrow is big enough for its position in a suburban area.

I have been woken up by flights at about 4 am, this has become very frequent

Please, please do not even consider a third runway at Heathrow - our lives are already blighted by this enormous problem. Please look at the alternatives and let`s share out the air traffic more fairly.

An expansion of Heathrow will bring even more misery to those who live under the flight path. The expansion of London's aircraft capacity should be concentrated on the other hubs which are in mainly rural areas. Improving the connections between these airports and Central London should be the priority.

Although I am a supporter of aviation and air travel, I feel it is very short-sighted to consider expanding Heathrow.Whenever I'm staying in Barnes under the flightpath, my sleep is usually disturbed by a/c noise each morning between 4.00 and 5.00am. Residents living even closer to the airport must suffer intolerably. A brand-new Thames Estuary hub is surely the only logical answer from noise- and air-pollution and safety considerations. There seems little doubt that air travel will continue to expand dramatically and vision and courage are needed to meet it.
