No Tent

To city council: stop this. It makes no sense. How about sticking it in the middle of the Glebe or Old Ottawa South?

We picked living in this community to raise our children in a safe environment. Already people are begging at most busy intersections. Enough! We have a right to have a say in what is in our community.

The safety of our communities are at stake. Why Ottawa

This is not acceptable at all! Barrhaven is behind in all resources. This would absolutely impact the community that is lack and behind areas like Kanata , Orleans , St Laurent !

There has not been proper thought or consideration put into the proposed location(s). That is why I am signing.

The common sense alone that this is a terrible idea bares no further comments.

We have enough problems with local overcrowding, local adequate infrastructure, local medical and social support, etc. Converting unused government bldgs is the better option. No one wants a rise in local taxes for this or anything else.

Barrhaven currently lacks the necessary infrastructure to adequately support these individuals, particularly in terms of transportation and access to essential resources such as social services and healthcare across Ottawa and the surrounding areas. This situation does not represent a viable or compassionate solution. Moreover, the fact that residents and taxpayers—wherever these tents may be placed—were neither informed nor consulted about this initiative feels like a proverbial slap in the face. Given the current challenges our city faces, including economic difficulties, limited social services, inadequate access to healthcare, and a shortage of affordable housing, many families are already struggling. Placing newcomers in tents is neither a sustainable nor humane solution.

I do not support these tents in Barrhaven or anywhere in Canada. I feel the government is just trying to lure these poor people from other countries to live in a cold climate in a tent. Just cruel

Barrhaven is a bedroom community and not set up for the influx of people nor does the community want it here

Please don’t allow this sprung structure to be located in Barrhaven. This area is not equipped for such housing

A better idea would be to convert the empty Government buildings into housing for refugees and people that are without housing. Real brick and mortar housing closer to downtown and more options for transit. These buildings are sitting empty and should be utilized for housing. It’s a win win.

What a shame that they intend to bring these to Barrhaven. I know I will not raise my children in this suburb if these come to fruition.

Ottawa has enough empty buildings that should be redone into apartments for refugees. You don’t put them in a suburban area where they can’t easily access the services they need upon arrival. We just found a deceased person in an encampment. This is not a well thought out plan.

I am absolutely again this. Barrhaven is not a place to build this shelter and especially not near several schools. This is a family oriented neighborhood where we moved be away from situations like this and to feel safe. This neighborhood doesn’t have the infrastructure that’s needed for this.

We have nothing out here in Farrhaven that these individuals will need. I believe there are other wards who are actually asking for a sprung structure. Why not set one up there?
