Because of the amount of smokers in American River College second hand smoke has become a problem to many non smokers . According to the American Cancer Society second hand smoke may cause lung cancer, increases breast cancer, heart disease, and cause asthma related problems. The American for Nonsmokers' Right states on there website (http://www.no-smoke.org/goingsmokefree.php?id=447) that as of 4/5/13 1,159 college in the U.S have enforced a smoke free campus policy. Due to the negative health factor of second hand smoke American River should be smoke free campus.
