We the students, parents, and community members of SAUSD believe that school should be cancelled on Monday January 23, 2017. There is too much of rain water/flooding, it could pose as a dangerous hazard to students while walking to class(falling and the soggy garments due to the floods could potentially make students ill).

Also, the mass majority of students in SAUSD are walkers or bus riders. Walking, as the weather forecast has announced, is out of the question. Riding the bus may result in tardies(the time it takes to wait, plan out, and ride the bus is already very consuming without the rain-traffic). There was also a flash-flood warning issued out today, January 22nd. That being said, and also the physical evidence OF the flood, it is not safe for students AND parents to commute.

Please take our request into consideration.

Updates

January 23, 2017

I really did not think we would hit 100 signatures so fast but here we are and my notifications are going absolutely crazy with the updates. It is honestly absurd that the district thinks we should just wade through actual rivers to get to our desks tomorrow.

Look at these numbers rising so fast and I honestly think we might hit that thousand mark if we just keep this momentum going through the night because the streets are already looking pretty bad out there. If you know anyone else who is stuck dealing with this flooded mess just send this link over to them because the district really needs to see that we are all on the same page about how dangerous these commutes have become for everyone trying to get to class.

I'm a walker and having no ride to school would be difficult for me. I would love that there be no school tomorrow since it will not stop raining until Tuesday. I walk from civic center to godinez. That's a 40 to 50 minute walk.

Please consider it. Last Friday, our classes had to be dismissed one at a time and back into class before another could go. Also , many students including myself went home soaked in rain water.

I don't want my mom driving me places that's are going to be flooded. I just want her to go to work safe and sound without her having to take me to school on a rainy day so she'll get to work faster

This honestly has become a hazard to our learning, not only are we prone to sickness due to the rain, we all have to carry electronics in our bags like the chromebooks, which if exposed to enough rain, could potententially be wet and malfunction.

As a worried Californian who has to walk to school and from school I believe it's too dangerous to be attending school at the moment. We wouldn't want any misshappens, there have been many car crashes caused by the flooding which has become a huge hazard
