The ocean is filled with at least eight million tons of plastic waste a year, this is causing it to be extremely harmful to our sea life animals. Nova Scotia is right be the beautiful Atlantic Ocean which is home to many marine animals, seabirds, coral, etc. with having the ocean right beside us it means we need to take care of the oceans so future generations can experience the ocean life too. Plastic makes up about 80% of debris in the ocean, making it harmful to many animals and sea life.

Not only is plastic harmful to animals, but it is harmful to humans too. If the fish and animals that we eat in our daily life consume plastic which can lead to biomagnification. Biomagnification can lead to us getting intoxicated with harmful chemicals in the plastic that sea life consumes.

Plastic straws are in the top 10 of the most found plastic in the ocean, around 615k + plastic straws are found in the ocean yearly which is a huge amount.

This petition is a call to action so we can reduce the plastic waste of straws in our oceans, this will not only be good for our environment but will be good for following generations to see how beautiful the atlantic ocean is, as well as help climate change.
