We the undersigned residents of mobile home parks in San Jose are calling on the Mayor and City Council to direct the Housing Department to cease and desist any further exploration of Opt In. The current rent control ordinance already addresses many of these issues. The City's Housing and Community Development Commission has already voted twice to recommend to stop any further consideration. No further action, including the creation of an Opt In Committee, should be taken.

Information in Vietnamese and then Spanish follow:

Cái nầy là về "OPT-IN"

(1) tiền thuê cao hơn: bạn phải trả cho sự cải thiện vốn công viên;

Spanish:

Este es el "opt-in"

(1) mayor renta: usted paga del parque para mejoras de capital;

Seeing two hundred and fifty neighbors sign this petition reminds me that our fear of losing our homes is shared by so many others in this community. I started this because I was tired of watching our rent protections being chipped away and it means everything to know I am not fighting alone.

I have spent my mornings talking to neighbors who are terrified that Opt In will steal the security of their homes. We are keeping the pressure on the City Council because our rent control protections are not up for negotiation.

July 11, 2016

Seeing this kind of momentum feels like a weight lifting off my chest because it proves my neighbors are just as worried about our homes as I am. We are finally showing the city that we will not sit quietly while our security is threatened.

As already stated, the current rent control statute addresses many of these issues. We should be requiring owners to put a certain percentage back into the parks every year to keep up the appearance and condition of the park instead of raising the rents and giving nothing back.

Living on a fixed income with a disabled spouse . Having a mortgage along with space rent & other life needs is a struggle enough without having to worry about our home would be a blessing. That's why we're in this community. Please don't make it harder on us and many others like us

I live in the Lamplighter park...4201 North 1st street...San Jose...We have a 3% yearly increase on this development...The rent is already too high...Including myself and 4 other neighbors....if this rent isn't controlled and goes up...we are moving...Thank you

Westwinds was very poorly maintained for over 25 years until just recently, and has a ways to go. The rent is already high, and has been even in rough times. I'm sure they will hit us with a big bill if this op-in proposal goes through. PLEASE stop it!

Opt-In is a waste of the city staff's time, especially since the issues has been turned away twice already. The owners should be required to abide by the existing rent control laws and honor the existing leases.

The Opt-In proposal is clearly a means to circumvent existing rent-control laws, which are more crucial now than they were in 1985. Passage of Opt-In would be tragic for the city of San Jose which is already in desperate need of more affordable housing!
