Oil and gas are the resources of the past. We must now take every opportunity to shift our economy away from unsustainable fossil fuels. Pipeline projects such as this must be ceased.

I wrote to the Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation (TDEC) Division of Water Resources in September 2020 in opposition to approving the permit request by Byhalia Pipeline, LLC. TDEC received a large amount of public comment from other concerned Memphians but those comments were ignored.
As a resident of Shelby County the proposed pipeline would be harmful environmentally, and it causes great concern for our local water source, property values, and especially the health of my neighbors in Shelby County, TN as well as myself. Byhalia Pipeline, LLC backed by Plains All American Pipeline, has proposed to run the crude oil pipeline through a stable African American community with generations of land ownership. There are many possible environmental and health risks associated with this project and the benefits do not outway the risk. The fact that there has yet to be a formal environmental impact statement for this project is very concerning.
It should also be noted that currently, Byhalia Pipeline, LLC backed by Plains All American Pipeline, the company faces criminal charges in California, where a pipeline ruptured in 2015, spilling 140,000 gallons of crude oil into the Pacific Ocean (https://n.pr/33jQuyu). Additionally, a 2017 US Department of Transportation report found Plains at fault for lapses in safety measures (https://bit.ly/2DQpuxK). This pipeline should be stopped!
