We, the citizens of White River and Area, and Stakeholders, petition the Corporation of the Township of White River to remove the community and areas inside the White River Forest Management Unit from the Nuclear Waste Management Organization's (N.W.M.O.) Adaptive Phase Management Process to host a deep geological repository to store all of Canada's high level nuclear waste.
Nuclear waste will remain dangerous for hundreds of thousands of years.
-There is no scientific proof that the waste will be contained and isolated long-term.
- There are flaws with the copper casing.
- Insufficient proof that no accidents will happen.
- We would not feel safe.
Our wealth comes from the land, not from putting nuclear waste into the land. We demand that the Township of White River hear our voices and construe this petition as compelling support to deviate from moving on in the site selection process.
Those creating the waste, should have to deal with it. Just how desperate is this community for money...I am assuming that the money was the only motivation for putting WR on the list to begin with. How about making the council members accountable for their decisions? This waste is not a one time event...How many parents want their children exposed to waste while they check out Winnie The Pooh?
