The NFA administration finally folded and scrapped these useless exams for good. We stood our ground against their archaic testing culture and forced them to actually listen to the students they claim to serve. Keep your eyes open to ensure they do not try to sneak some other high pressure …

Students from the Norwich Free Academy have to take midterm and final exams, usually during January and June. While we understand these exams prepare us for college, there are more cons than pros. The only pro is preparing you for college. The cons include tons of stress on students and time needed to develop exams by teachers. Students are thrown into a position where if they receive a poor grade on their midterm, their semester grade will suffer as well. This is unfair, because the exam covers half a year and requires many hours of studying and preparing to relearn everything taught throughout the year. Some people, are bad test takers, and have frequent anxiety attacks and other issues that cause them to second guess themselves and score poorly on tests. Final exams are a large part of your grade, and somebody who has a B+ and deserves it, but then scores an F on the exam will see a dramatic drop in their grade because of 2 hours of testing. Teachers also need to develop exams and make sure that they cover everything. This makes it so that if some teachers were unable to cover certain topics for undisclosed reasons, they are forced to try to jam in a lesson at the end of the year when they should be reviewing for the big test. The cons outweigh the pros in this situation. Many teachers also disagree with exams as well, and do not enjoy giving them. We are not proposing to not have anything at the end of the year, but we think that exams are not the way to go with students at NFA. The momentum behind this is undeniable and it proves that the administration cannot ignore our struggle anymore. We are sick of their outdated testing policies ruining our grades and our mental health. Keep applying the pressure because the Norwich Free Academy board needs to know we are not backing down.

These tests don’t mean anything. I’m gonna study for a week straight to take a few tests and forget everything I studied as soon as I done with these pointless exams.

Yes finals and midterms are good because you can see what we have learned and what we retained, but they add so much stress into our lives when we already have jobs, crappy home lives, and social issues

I think that theses text are unneeded Because as a student I would like to speak for myself and other when I say it put a lot of stress on students because the test can affect Put all around grade for a class and let’s take into consideration that a student may play a sport or maybe in a musical theater Dance band etc. That’s even more stress on your students So nfa let me ask you do you really want that kind of stress on your students...

I would much prefer to have final projects be given in place of or as an alternative option to exams! This is an awesome petition!
