As a concerned member of this community, I fully support this petition. With the funds to locate a new jail in this neighborhood, we could clean up the sidewalks, make healthy food more accessible, give our teachers more resources with which to teach our students the places they can go, not the jail cells they can sit in.

There are 4 school buildings behind the Bronx Hall of Justice. Ther is a methodone clinic and multiple daycare facilities in the same area. No room for a jail. Bring us hope not more disparity.

While I understand the proposed jail in the E. 161st area is in close proximity to the Bronx Court System. As an resident of Morrisania. I am opposed to the local.

I work in this section of the Bronx and must say, adding a jail will become a huge problem for these streets that are already congested with traffic.

Putting a jail in a predominantly residential neighborhood is reprehensible. And why is it that the black and brown communities is always targeted for such things as if we don't already have enough issues to contend with in our community. The psychological impact of a jailhouse on our black and brown young people, in the community in which they live, go to school and socialize, cannot and should not be overlooked. This blatant visual representation of normalizing the pipeline of school-to courthouse-to prison, is highly disturbing and should be stopped!

I strongly oppose locating a borough based facility along the E. 161st Street Corridor. A new jail at E. 161, behind the Bronx Hall of Justice, would bring additional traffic to an area that already regularly experiencing gridlock. District 16 is already home to a number of municipal services including the Bronx Civic Area, the District Attorney’s office, the Bronx Courts system, as well as Yankees Stadium. Unless the City comes up with a real plan to reduce congestion, it’s unfair and unsafe to site a jail in this neighborhood.
