Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus plans to honor the late Congressman John Murtha by giving his name to thenew LPD (Transport Dock Ship), to be launched in 2013. In doing so, Sec. Mabus is breaking the Navy's tradition of namingSan Antonio-class amphibious transports after American cities. He is also honoring a man who:
1) was one of the most corrupt members of the U.S. Congress, and
2) called U.S. Marines murderers who killedwomen and children "in cold blood."
Such a man does not deserve to be honored by the U.S. Navy. I respectfully ask Secretary Mabus to reconsider hisdecision.

Absolutely not. Murtha was a disgrace and should not be honored by any branch of the military. Bad call.
NAMING A SHIP AFTER THAT GUY IS AN INSULT TO THE ENTIRE USMC. FIND SOMEONE ELSE OR JUST STICK TO THE CITY NAMES.
Disgusted by this decision. My nephew served in the Corps and he is furious about this.
The man had zero respect for our troops. Giving a ship his name is a slap in the face to every Marine.
Keep politics out of the Navy. This is just wrong.

Murtha was a crook. Please do not honor him in this way. I'm a USAF brat and am proud of my own family's service. It is disrespectful to the many honorable men and women in the Navy to name a ship after Murtha.
