Dr. Charles Murray has been classified as a “White Nationalist” by the Southern Poverty Law Center, an organization that monitors hate groups and other extremists throughout the United States. Murray’s most published works make arguments based on racial eugenics that economically successful people can attribute their success to a high IQ, and African Americans do not enjoy the genetic endowment that would suit them to college-level study or economic prosperity. Murray’s unwelcomed and discriminatory words, whether intentional or a product of the disregard for the safety, rights, or welfare of others, which intimidate, degrade, demean, threaten, bully, haze or otherwise interfere with another person’s daily activity are prohibited from our University and we seek the administration to enforce that prohibition.

The conflicting nature of his hateful rhetoric does not represent the views and opinions of the students, and as a means to prevent polarization and violence we support the retraction of Murray’s invitation to the University of Miami School of Law.

It makes me sick to think that I have paid thousands of graduate dollars to attend an institution that would then turn around and support a person who wouldn't want me to be in higher education at all; wouldn't want me giving you my money. I always vote with my dollars and I would have never come to this school had I known you support racists.

No place for this at our upstanding university. The fact that his most published works make arguments that African Americans do not enjoy the genetic endowment that would suit them to college-level study or economic prosperity is disgusting. It would be best if he not step foot on campus.

As a recent graduate of UM Law and a Veteran, I value the idea of free speech...but freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences. UM if you allow this form of speech on our campus, I hope you are ready to suffer the consequences...

There is a such thing as hearing varied, educated opinions. And then there is letting gross prejudices and vile misinformation spread. The latter has no place in an institution of higher learning and I am appalled that there is not a stronger vetting process for the qualifications of public speakers at the University of Miami.

UM is a university that holds much pride in the diversity and togetherness we all share as students, faculty and staff. Allowing someone that has been named a white supremacist to speak on our campus would hold a huge negative effect to people of color and different racial backgrounds that make up our university.

This kind of rhetoric is hurtful and offensive to our brilliant, diverse community. Dr. Murray's white supremacy and vitriol have no place at the University of Miami.
