In an area that is already over-subscribed in this respect, and already has the pressures that go with a top-heavy aged population along with heavy second home ownership, this is the last thing that the town needs. The local authorities should be encouraging developments that help local people and investments, particularly the younger population. What the town needs is more affordable housing for rent and to buy for local people - yet another retirement complex is exactly what it doesn't need.
Not to mention the loss of car parking - the proposed site is on one of the very few long stay car parks in town.
We are totally against the proposal, and strongly encourage the local council to turn down any resulting planning application for new retirement properties.

We need to redress the age balance by encouraging more young people of working age to be able to live here and contribute to the economy of the town.
As a mother to be I am over the moon to be able to bring our children up in such a beautiful place, but what happens when they are grown up? I am 31 and there are only a handful of my old school friends left in the area as after university hardly anybody can afford to settle here. I don't want it to be a given that my children will finish their education and then move away, I would like it to be the norm for them to stay in the area, and this can only happen if we have more affordable housing for the younger generation. Yes it is a lovely place to retire to but if the cost is having to push our own children out then I am fully against it.
100% Against this planning application. Firstly, we need more affordable housing for younger local people, Bridport has really changed over the years and become a vibrant and enjoyable place to live. Please don't allow it to be turned into a retirement village. Secondly, valuable parking spaces will also be lost if this proposal goes ahead. Parking in the town centre is already a problem, let's not add to it!
Everybody needs somewhere to live, however if you tip the balance to heavily in favour of one age group you have the potential to ruin the diversity of the town. That's not what Bridport needs.
we need affordable homes, we need places for our community to thrive, not an elephants graveyard.

Do a search for a property and see how many retirement homes there are for sale in our area. Try and find an affordable family home, and they're few and far between. We need more affordable housing in Bridport please.
