Please don't get rid of any of the railway lines. The potential for tourism is enormous if the government would let it happen. It just needs someone who can put it all together,not a politician, to make it work.

The rail lines are in place, utilise them for their intended purpose. In every other state of Australia there are rail excursions thriving. Passengers happily pay for the privilege, these ridiculous rail trails only ever cost the taxpayer, they are not revenue earners.

This is is wholesale theft and destruction of publicly-owned infrastructure .
This legislation has been deceptively worded so as to appear even-handed, and quietly slipped through in the vain hope that it wouldn't be noticed .
Any mention of cost to the public by the naysayers is misleading - Heritage Rail was successfully run from 1984-2005 until access to the tracks was abruptly withdrawn by the profiteering private owners who had bought the public track but did not maintain it properly . And then wondered why, after three derailments, that they couldn't get insurance !
Heritage Rail was not involved in any of this, and they have done a magnificent job of surviving these last 11 years .
They need our support now more than ever !

Get on board and back this all the way
Otherwise we will have push bike tracks through paddocks everywhere not everyone can ride a bike .
Yes everyone can get on a train and go for a nice relaxing scenic view including the elderly , children and disabled
The train is fair to all
The bike ride is not fair to all !!

Keep the remaining lines open, especially the Derwent Valley Line. If the government can't or won't look after them, sell the line for a token sum.

There's no need to rip up perfectly fine rails for a push bike track who's gonna ride when its cold or raining certainly not me

These trails will only be used once then become over grown. why rip up perfectly good track to accommodate a minority when a majority could be using this track to its proper utmost purpose in the future. Makes no sense.

There are so many tourism enterprise opportunities utilising intact rails, such as pedal or motorised rail rider carts, rail / road buses (Hi-rails) that don't need the sort of resources full sized trains need, that can cater for so many more people than limited opportunities provided by rail trails. Bikes can be ridden anywhere. Riding on rails can't be done anywhere.
